Starting your new business isn’t easy, you have to face thousands of small or bigger problems and decisions. At certain stage one of them will be creating a logo. Some of entrepreneurs will have their imagination of how their logo would look like, but most of them don’t. We will give you 5 quick tips and keypoints that will help you to design THE PERFECT LOGOTYPE.
The very first and the most important is of course the idea. Logotypes can be made of images, cliparts, typography, 3d and abstract designs and many more. Do you have your favourite colour, picture, shape, slogan? You may want your logo to directly show what your business is all about? Grab a piece of paper and start sketching, even if you don’t have a drawing talent it is very important to put all your ideas on paper, then pick the best of them and show to your friends or family. They are a source of very valuable tips. If you’re lacking inspiration you have whole internet to help. All you have to do is google “creative logos inspirations” and you’ll find yourself in a mine of ideas. Check your local or global market competitors and DO NOT TRY TO COPY their ideas. Think different, think clever and unique! Once you have your perfect idea check the following points to see how it can be even better!
Texts in your logo must have a proper and adequate font type, the one you like and the one that will be connected to a branch of business you deal with. What does that mean? For example if you own a “funeral home” company, having “comic sans” font in your logo isn’t a best idea. If your business is related to arts, design, your font should be more stylised and just “beautiful” or if you own a company that does a technical stuff, your font better be enough simple and readable. In any of cases your customer should be able to read your company name from near distance as well as from the other side of the street. Fonts cannot be too thin, too complex, they just can not be too weird. You don’t want your ‘potential’ customer to walk away because he wasn’t able to read your banner on the street, or even worse situation when he has been looking for you and he was unable to find. This scenario might never happen but i wanted to show you how far it potentially could go when you pick the wrong font.
You may think that tip is so obvious but believe me I saw hundreds of logos that even I couldn’t read regardless of the distance.
A truly “never ending story”. In my opinion, logo graphics should say what it has to say but at the same time be simple enough so you (or anybody else) could be able to sketch it afterwards in 2 minutes. What does that mean? Human brain will more likely remember simpler but clever logo than too complex one. Don’t get me wrong on that one because of course there are always exceptions to the rule, and even complex logo with tons of details might be as well widely recognisable and memorable.
Considering the above, placing photos in your logo is not the way to go.
I’ll make that a quick one. Please don’t use millions of colours. Use one to four colours for best results. If you have your favourite colours? That’s great. If not? not to worry. There are many internet ‘colour mixers’ websites where you can design your own perfect palette of colours.
some of them are:

Creating colorful logotype you have to think that it also might be used and seen in black and white. After sketching typography, graphics and picking colours, print it in full colour and check if that suits you, then switch your design to grayscale and print it again. Next thing is to see how logo looks on bright and on dark background. You will probably need to invert some colours to make it visible or use some background if you want to avoid colour changing. Now check if it’s still readable, visible and does it deliver the same visual experience you desire.
Now you have your perfect logotype is looking great and it’s just “the one”. Hold on for a sec. Show it first to your friends, family and check their reactions. Don’t suggest anything just yet, because they may see something you missed. It’s better if I show you some logo fails than write about them 🙂
